If you have been in the internet marketing industry for any length of time I am pretty sure you have heard of the phrase…
“The money is in the list”
Well you have been LIED TO!
“The money is NOT in the LIST”
Let me explain, If the money was really in the list, I could go out and just bust buy a database of half a million email records and according to the “money is in the list” phrase I would be a millionaire right? I could just send emails to that 500k list and make a fortune!
WRONG!
I would make NO money, would be labelled as a spammer, and any autoresponder would shut me down very quickly.
The money is in the list statement is misleading and incorrect.
So where is the money?
“The money is in the relationship with the LIST”
Read that last line again.
Think about it, buying a massive email list and sending them emails will make you no money because you have no relationship with that list. They don’t know who you are and why your emailing them, basically it’s just spam to them.
You need to build a list and then BUILD A RELATIONSHIP with that list to make money online with list building. Once you start cultivating a relationship with your list they will get to know, like and trust you. Only then will they respond to any offers you send them. And because they know like and trust you they will buy your products, services and recommendations.
So to round up the money is in the relationship with your list, not in in the list itself.
How do you build a relationship with your list you might ask next?
Here is 1 BIG tip, provide them with VALUE!

March 9, 2014I agree with you so much about the money being in the relationship with your list. Our subscribers need to get to know us and trust us before they will even think of buying any of our recommendations or products.
Keep up the good work

March 19, 2014I agree with you 100%.
Without the relationship there is no trust.
And people buy on trust.
Otherwise we’d all be getting our credit cards out to every piece of junk email we received!!!

April 1, 2015Excellent point. I think a lot of people don’t understand that business is about relationships. Give people value and they will come back again and again.
